Looking for a summer job that takes you out of the ordinary and lands you in the middle of South Dakota’s natural resources? Consider a seasonal job position with Game, Fish and Parks. There are a variety of opportunities that offer life experiences working hand-in-hand with parks and wildlife.

The normal summer season is mid-May through Labor Day. Some employees may work earlier or later. Most positions involve outdoor work and physical labor.

The initial closing date for the GFP Seasonal positions is February 23, 2015

GFP Supervisors will contact those applicants they wish to interview. Interviews will begin in February. Not all applicants will receive an interview, but all applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.

JOB TITLE:  Campground Attendant/Grounds Maintenance/Program Coordinator

*Campground Attendant:  Assists in the overall operation and maintenance of assigned campgrounds and day use facilities including but not limited to, cleaning comfort stations and cabins/lodge, collecting camping fees, selling park passes, cleaning fire grates, managing the reservation system and providing information to the public. 
Requirements: Money handling experience is helpful. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions out of doors.  Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code.  Valid driver’s license required.                         
Minimum salary: $9.00 per hour (S02).

*Parks/Ground Maintenance:  Assists with maintenance of buildings and grounds within the park including but not limited to, mowing campgrounds and day use areas, shoreline clean-up and tree removal and operating equipment such as chain saws, tractors, skid loaders, mowers, weed eaters, and trucks.
Requirements: Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions out of doors. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code.  Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary $9.00 per hour (S02)

*Naturalist/Program Coordinator:  Develops, promotes, and presents programs on natural and cultural resources, and environmental education. Duties may include developing and presenting day and evening programs, coordinating special events, and presenting living history demonstrations, staffing the park office or entrance booth.
Requirements: Experience and interest in teaching, public speaking, and working with children and adults is desirable. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.00 per hour (S03).

*Secretary:  Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: provide clerical/secretarial support which includes tasks such as composing and finalizing correspondence, establishing and maintaining filing systems, some accounting demands including auditing, and depositing revenue, answering the phone, performing miscellaneous tasks assigned by the manager that would relate to the operation of a district office.  Secondary responsibilities include working as an entrance station attendant when demand merits if. This would include all the responsibilities and requirements of a Gate Attendant. That includes working at park entrance greeting the public, selling licenses and permits, answering questions, using the Point of Sale computer program for fee collection. This position will also be utilized for general buildings and grounds maintenance when needed. 
Requirements: Ability to type accurately, operate a variety of office equipment, communicate information clearly and concisely, have experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, interacting with the general public, work on your own, and in a variety of weather conditions out of doors, money handling experience, will include day hours and occasionally evening hours that could include weekends and holidays.
Minimum salary: $9.00 per hour (S02).

Minimum salary: $9.00 per hour (S02).

*Public Water Access (PWA) Crew Leader: Job site supervisor for seasonal work crews and inmates performing general maintenance and project work. Duties may include working directly with seasonal employees performing facility and grounds maintenance work and operating a variety of equipment including trucks, mowers, and tractors. Overnight travel is required occasionally up to three nights a week
Requirements: Supervisory experience is helpful. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions out of doors. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Be available to work approximately April 1 through November 15. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.00 per hour (S03).
