In order to be considered for a state government position, you must complete our online application process. Paper applications will not be accepted.

If you are an individual with a disability and are unable or limited in your ability to access job openings or apply for a job on this site, you can request a reasonable accommodation by contacting the Bureau of Human Resources at 605.773.3148 or email careers@state.sd.us.

Upon successful completion of the application process, an automated email will be sent confirming that your application was received. If you have not received a confirmation email please check your junk mail folder. You may also check the status of your application by logging in and looking at My Applications.

If you are selected for an interview, the hiring manager will contact you either by phone or email to schedule a time. The interview selection process may take several weeks, so please be patient. Candidates not selected will be notified by email.

You cannot make changes to an application after it has been submitted. If you would like to make a change and the job is still posted, you may withdraw your application and reapply.

If you need assistance with an application that has already been submitted, please contact the Bureau of Human Resources at 605.773.3148 or email careers@state.sd.us.

Log in, click My Applications, and select the check box for the application you want to withdraw. Then click Actions, Withdraw, and then OK to confirm. If the job is still posted, you may reapply.

Our Career Space system automatically syncs your job applications with your candidate profile. Therefore, any attachments submitted with a prior application remain on your profile and are attached to future applications.

To avoid unwanted attachments from being submitted to the hiring manager, review the attachments on your profile and current application and delete any that do not apply. If you need assistance removing attachments from an application that has already been submitted, please contact the Bureau of Human Resources at 605.773.3148 or email careers@state.sd.us

Jobs with a closing date will remain on the website until 11:59 p.m. on the closing date. If a job is announced as open until filled, it will remain posted until the job is filled.

For best results, please attach your resume, or any other documents, as a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF document. We are not able to accept documents submitted in Pages, WordPerfect, or Google Doc format.

Your username is the email address you entered when you first registered. On the log in screen click forgot password and follow the onscreen instructions to get a temporary password emailed to our email address on file for your username. Once you log in, you will need to answer security questions.
If you forgot your username, please contact the Bureau of Human Resources at 605.773.3148 or email careers@state.sd.us to reset your password.
Do not attempt to create another profile.

Typically, that error means you tried to copy/paste information into your application. Please type the information into your application and that should allow you to proceed.

This error means you accessed our job posting from another site or job board. Please go directly to our website at http://bhr.sd.gov/workforus and start the process over.

If you see a drop-down arrow, click it and a window will appear with a list for you to select from. You must choose from the available list. Manually typing the information may result in an error.

This may have happened because you bookmarked the jobs page. Please close your browser, open a new window and go to our website at http://bhr.sd.gov/workforus and start the process over.

Resume parsing is a service that pulls information from your resume and it gets auto generated on your profile. Documents must be Microsoft Word, PDF, text, or HTML files. Resumes longer than 2 pages may not upload correctly. Please ensure the populated information is correct when reviewing profile.

The first three lines of your resume should be your:
1. Name
2. Your Address
3. Your city, state, and zip
Review your profile once parsed to ensure information populated correctly.

If you don't see the submit application button, you have an incomplete application, and must correct the fields with a RED Exclamation point (!). You can do this by clicking one of the other fields on that line. That will open the edit window. You will need to edit the information where you see the ? and hit Save.
