The Department of Game, Fish and Parks is currently accepting seasonal applications.

JOB TITLE: Seasonal Positions – Summer 2021

*Campground Attendant: Assist in the overall operation and maintenance of assigned campgrounds and day use facilities including but not limited to cleaning comfort stations, collecting camping fees, cleaning fire grates, managing the reservation system and providing information to the public. Campground Attendants may operate a variety of small tools such as gas operated power washer, weed trimmers, and cordless drills. Operating equipment such as golf carts and UTV’s.
Requirements: Money handling experience is helpful. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions out of doors. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.17 per hour (S02).

*Parks/Ground Maintenance Worker: Assists with maintenance of buildings and grounds within the park, including mowing, weed whipping, spraying, watering, and operating equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, tractors, weed sprayers, trucks, small hand tools, and pulling a trailer.
Requirements: Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions out of doors. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.17 per hour (S02).

*Crew Leader/Campground Supervisor: Primary responsibilities include being the working supervisor of Campground Attendants and Park Maintenance workers in the Park Manager’s absence. Constant contact with the public will be maintained throughout the performance of duties. A supervisor must maintain a professional image by actions and appearance. Other duties include supervision, training, and assistance to campground attendants and park workers, collection and recording of monies from self-sell license stations, and maintenance of grounds, buildings, and facilities. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Supervisory experience is helpful. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions out of doors. Experience in handling money, operation of Golf carts, UTV’s, and cordless tools. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.89 per hour (S03).

*Naturalist/Program Coordinator: Develops, promotes, and presents programs on natural and cultural resources, and environmental education. Duties may include staffing the visitor centers, selling publications, developing and presenting day and evening programs, coordinating special events, and presenting living history demonstrations.
Requirements: Experience and interest in teaching, public speaking, and working with children and adults is desirable. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.

2021 SUMMER SEASONAL POSITIONS

JOB TITLE: Seasonal Wildlife Positions - 2021
Location: Sioux Falls (2 positions)
Minimum salary: $10.89 per hour (S03)

*Fisheries Technician:
Position purpose: Assist the GFP southeast area fisheries management team with fisheries management, fisheries research, aquatic habitat, aquatic access and aquatic invasive species activities on southeastern South Dakota waters.

Position starting and ending dates: March 22 to September 17, 2021

Primary duties: Fish spawning and stocking operations, fish population sampling using gill nets, trap nets, seines and electrofishing, aquatic habitat improvement, fishing access improvement, assisting with research studies, data entry, lab work, creel surveys, aquatic invasive species outreach, and equipment maintenance.

Essential requirements: Valid driver’s license, the ability to perform strenuous physical labor, and the ability to work nights and weekends.

Beneficial abilities: Operation and maintenance of boats, motors, and trailers, basic vehicle and equipment maintenance, knowledge of fisheries management principles and techniques, fish identification and basic computer operation.

*Seasonal housing available at Oahe Downstream Recreation Area located 12 miles from the Farm Island district office at $4/day.

*Parks/Grounds Maintenance Worker: Assist with maintenance of buildings and grounds within the park, including mowing, cleaning of facilities, trail maintenance, string trimming, park project work, tree maintenance, painting, garbage collection and other responsibilities. Operating equipment such as mowers, tractors, trucks and trailers.
Requirements: Ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions outdoors. Mostly day shifts and some weekend work required. Uniforms are provided and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.17 per hour (S02).

*Campground Supervisor (Gate): Work primarily at park entrance office greeting customers, selling park entrance licenses, placing camping reservations, answering questions through walkup traffic and the phone, and working around our Point of Sales system. This position will also be responsible for daily cleaning of park facilities and garbage collection throughout the park.
Requirements: Position requires the ability to enthusiastically greet people and deal with problems in a positive way. Alternating day and night hours, as well as weekend and holidays. Money handling experience is helpful. Uniform shirts are provided, and employees must comply with uniform dress code. Valid driver’s license required.
Minimum salary: $10.89 per hour (S02).

*Campground Supervisor (Field): Work in the park(s) conducting fee collection in campgrounds and general park facility cleaning. Duties include but not limited to janitorial duties, garbage detail, permit compliance, assistance with camping reservations, meeting and greeting our guests and addressing any questions, cleaning fire grate ashes, and assisting in the education of the public relating to park rules and behavior.
Requirements: Position requires the ability to enthusiastically greet people and deal with problems in a positive way. Positions can/will work both day and evening shifts, as well as weekend and holidays. Uniform shirts are provided, and valid driver’s license required.
